Last day of March .....

I don't think I could be happier to get past these dreaded 31 days. Let me tell you brother; it's been the good, the bad, and the ugly around here.

But April is tomorrow and that makes me SO happy I could burst. I really don't know why ... I just feel it's gonna be a good month. April is really the first month of the year since it takes 3 months to shed all the old crap of last year. The Pagans celebrated New Years on April 1st too ... which makes a lot more sense that observing it in the dead of winter. But why stop now?

Anyways ... I'm feeling so much better after being sick for 2 weeks. It's all thanks to rum + orange juice + emergenC. Fuck yeah. Ready to start world take over PHASE II!

FIVE is moving along and so is RATLINE. I've also got some amazing shoots lined up in the next couple of weeks. Then it will be time for summer, the finishing of my script, a short film, and god knows what else. It's how I roll.

You know you're on to something when....

These last 3 weeks have been epic.

Everything good and bad has gone down. 2009 seems to be good for that.

********************

The problem seems to be this: Every time you take it upon yourself to do anything out of norm., people have to shit on you. Why? Because it easier for them to criticize you than fix their own problems. Heaven forbid they do something for themselves .... something that comes from their own merit and NOT from riding off someones coat tails.

I've been through these things many times ... but it always sucks. I hold myself and others to a very high standard and I am often disappointed in others. It's not to say that I'm not forgiving or understanding ..... in fact, I'm probably too forgiving and understanding. I just believe in treating others with respect and with respect comes high standards.

All I can truly do is rise above it. In the end I'm the only one, I answer to. And I'm very happy with what I've been able to accomplish at such a young age!

So the good news:
I am the new fashion/lifestyle writer for Gothic Beauty Magazine! This has been a dream of mine for a long time and I can't even express how happy I am :)
What's also amazing is the magazine is staffed with some incredibly nice and talented people. No coat tail riders here!

It's very refreshing.

RATLINE is going so well too! I'm freaking proud of my Wicked Pixel crew!

VHS madness

So as I mentioned in my previous post ... I acquired a large amount of VHS while visiting SPUDIC'S MOVIE EMPIRE. This past week has been spent discovering new treasures and revisiting some classics.

BULLET (1996) directed by Julien Temple
I picked this one up because it had both Mickey Rourke and Tupac Shakur in it! I was expecting some lowbrow gangsta flick but instead found an incredible movie.  I think it gets overlooked because of piss poor marketing.  The film was released after Tupac bit the dust and it's really obvious the producers where trying to capitalize on that.  BULLET, is a pretty dark film that examines raw human emotion. Rourke's performance is fantastic and is backed by the likes of Ted Levine and a young Adrien Brody. Defiantly check this one out.

ANGEL HEART (1987) directed by Alan Parker
I had forgotten just how good this movie is! Staring, again, Mickey Rourke, Robert De Niro, and Lisa Bonet and Charlotte Rampling. After watching this again, I realized just how much other movie have ripped off of it. Sad. The baby still gives me nightmares too!

BLUE VELVET (1989) directed by David Lynch
There is a reason why hipsters always say this movie is great. Because it is. Amazing cast and story. The visuals are stunning and the movie holds up incredibly.  I still have a total girl crush on Isabella Rossellini.

I'll be digging threw some more later today .....

Would you like your name in the credits of RATLINE ?

Back from the West Coast

Hello SCARS fans!

Just got back from the great lala land and Vegas .... crazy times my friends, crazy times.
First off a very special "thank you" goes out to the lovely Heidi Martinuzzi for picking up from the airport and giving me a ride to various other places. You should check out her amazing website www.pretty-scary.net!

My time in L.A. was also made special by Eric Spudic! He runs a fantastic video store called SPUDIC'S MOVIE EMPIRE (www.spudicsmovieempire.com)  If you are a fan of rare VHS, DVD, or LASERDISC you have to check this place out! I myself am a VHS junkie so I ended up with a whole box that had to be shipped back home :D Spudic also showed me Batman's cave ... unfortunately Batman wasn't home.

I had the opportunity to see PENITENTIARY II at the New Beverly Cinema. Jamaa Fanaka himself was on hand to present the film. His talk was truly heartfelt and inspiring. He truly loves what he does. Many of the original cast was in the audience too including Tony Cox! The whole vibe of the crowd was really nice too. I love being around my fellow GRINDHOUSE fans!

After L.A. I hit up Vegas for a few days. Vegas is always fun filled with creepy people! Like girls who will pay $20 dry hump a guy who looks like Aladdin. Or guys in there late 20's who didn't get the memo about NOT wearing visors anymore. On the way back to St.Louis, a flight attendant told me I was to young to know what A CLOCKWORK ORANGE was after seeing my tattoo.

Well now I have to get back to work! I start editing my film FIVE later this week and there's still a wee bit of production left on RATLINE.
